Personal Protection Orders (PPOs)

For many survivors of intimate partner violence, seeking legal protection can feel frightening, confusing, or overwhelming. A Personal Protection Order (PPO) can be an important step toward safety, but no one should have to navigate that process without support.

At the YWCA of Metropolitan Detroit, our advocates walk beside you — gently, confidentially, and at a pace that honors your safety and comfort.

You don’t have to face this alone.

Compassionate Support at Local Police Precincts

Through a collaboration with the Detroit Police Department’s 2nd and 4th Precincts, trained YWCA victim advocates are on site to provide:

  • Assistance with PPO filings
  • One-on-one guidance through court procedures
  • Emotional support during the legal process
  • Safety planning before and after filing
  • Court accompaniment when needed
  • Help navigating next steps after a court ruling
  • Advocacy to ensure your voice is heard and respected

Our advocates are here to help you stay safe, understand your rights, and feel supported — not rushed, pressured, or alone.

We Help You Stay Safe While Protecting Your Rights

Whether you are filing a PPO against a partner, ex-partner, or another individual who has caused harm or threats, our advocates help you:

  • Know what documents you may need
  • Understand how the court process works
  • Explore options for staying safe at home, at work, and in the community
  • Know what to expect after filing
  • Feel confident and supported every step of the way

We believe every survivor deserves dignity, clarity, and care throughout this process.
